You are drafting [CLIENT_NAME]'s Study Permit Statement of Purpose for Canada. The visa officer evaluates the application under IRPR R216 - three load-bearing prongs:

Plus: no inadmissibility (criminal, medical, misrep, security).
Target length: 600-800 words. Plain professional tone. First-person voice from [CLIENT_NAME].

§1 - DRAFT THE SOP (600-800 words)
Use this structure exactly:
PARAGRAPH 1 - INTRODUCTION (60-80 words)
- State name, age, city
- State exactly what is being requested: "I am applying for a Canadian
study permit to pursue [PROGRAM_NAME] at [DLI_NAME] commencing
[PROGRAM_START]."
- One-line statement of why this program + this school
PARAGRAPH 2 - ACADEMIC BACKGROUND (90-120 words)
- [PRIOR_EDUCATION] with specific institution + final grade
- Brief coverage of relevant subjects or specialisations
- Bridge: why this background leads naturally to [PROGRAM_NAME]
- If applicable, mention English-medium instruction (corroborates
language readiness)
PARAGRAPH 3 - WORK EXPERIENCE + CAREER ARC (90-120 words)
- None with role, employer, dates, key responsibilities
- If no work experience, talk about internships, college projects,
or family business exposure
- Bridge to why advanced education in Canada is the logical next step
- DO NOT make claims about specific compensation expectations or
Canadian salary research - that signals stay-intent
PARAGRAPH 4 - WHY THIS PROGRAM, WHY THIS SCHOOL, WHY CANADA (120-160 words)
- Why [PROGRAM_NAME] specifically: name 2-3 courses or specialisations
that match the career goal in [CAREER_AFTER_GRADUATION]
- Why [DLI_NAME] specifically: faculty name, ranking, specific lab,
industry partnerships, alumni outcomes - one concrete reason
- Why Canada: quality of business education + relevance to India-Canada
trade corridor / sectoral exposure relevant to home-country career.
Do NOT cite "permanent residency pathway" or "PGWP" - those flag
stay-intent
- Why NOT pursue equivalent in India: be honest and specific (e.g. case-
based pedagogy, North American capital-markets exposure, networking)
PARAGRAPH 5 - FUNDS (80-110 words)
- GIC: CAD [GIC_AMOUNT_CAD] held with [bank name - typically Scotiabank
/ RBC / CIBC / ICICI Canada / SBI Canada]
- Tuition payment: state whether first-year tuition is paid in full or
deposit paid, and balance plan
- Family savings: INR [FAMILY_FUNDS_INR_LAKH] lakh - source (savings,
family business income, property income, FD maturities) + name of the
sponsor and relationship
- Reference to attached documents: bank statements (6 months), ITRs
(3 years), Form 16, property documents, sponsor's affidavit
- If education loan: lender, sanctioned amount, disbursement schedule
PARAGRAPH 6 - TIES TO INDIA + POST-GRADUATION PLAN (120-160 words)
- [FAMILY_TIES] with specific names + occupations + locations
- Property held by self/family in India (residential / agricultural /
commercial) with specific addresses if possible
- Post-graduation plan: [CAREER_AFTER_GRADUATION] - specific role,
employer if known, sector, projected timeline
- Make the return concrete: name the city, the role, the family
enterprise or specific Indian employer
- Avoid: "I will absolutely return" / "I promise to leave"
- Prefer: "My family business in [CLIENT_CITY] depends on my return
to take over the [specific function] from my father by [year]"
PARAGRAPH 7 - ADDRESS RISK FLAGS None (60-100 words)
- For each flag, one or two sentences addressing it directly
- Examples:
- Gap year: state cause + what was done productively
- Lower IELTS: cite recent score improvement or planned retake +
compensating language evidence (English-medium education)
- Prior refusal (any country): briefly acknowledge + state what is
materially different in this application
- DO NOT use defensive language ("Despite my refusal")
- Use plain factual framing ("In 2022 my UK study-visa application
was refused for insufficient funds. The current application is
supported by [specific evidence], which fully addresses that ground.")
PARAGRAPH 8 - CLOSING (40-60 words)
- One sentence: commitment to comply with all conditions of the study
permit
- One sentence: explicit intent to return to India at the end of
authorised stay under IRPA s.20(1)(b)
- Sign-off with name, date, place, signature line
§2 - VOICE + DISCIPLINE
- First person throughout; "I" / "my"
- No emojis. No exclamation marks. No rhetorical questions
- No superlatives ("the best", "world-class", "renowned") - say what
makes the school specific without ranking it
- Use ISO dates (YYYY-MM-DD) when citing IRCC-relevant dates
- Currency: "CAD 54,000" + "INR 85 lakh" - never mix the two in one sum
- Spell program name and DLI name exactly as on the LOA - mis-spelling
the institution is a sloppiness flag
§3 - COMMON REFUSAL TRIGGERS - CONFIRM THE DRAFT AVOIDS THEM
After drafting, run this self-check:
(a) Officer concern - "Lack of program coherence" - does the draft
explicitly bridge prior education to the chosen program?
(b) Officer concern - "Weak ties to home country" - are family ties and
post-graduation employment SPECIFIC, with names and locations?
(c) Officer concern - "Insufficient funds" - is GIC + family-funds total
= tuition + CAD 20,635 living + dependants (if any) + travel?
(d) Officer concern - "Choice of program / institution not credible" -
did you name a specific course / specialisation / faculty?
(e) Officer concern - "Will not leave at end of authorised stay" - is the
post-graduation plan concrete (specific role + specific city)?
State PASS / NEEDS WORK for each, and if NEEDS WORK, suggest the rewrite.
§4 - OUTPUT FORMAT
1. The drafted SOP (numbered paragraphs, no headings)
2. The self-check table from §3
3. List of supporting documents to attach to the SOP
4. Two-line note to the consultant flagging anything to verify
against GCMS / LOA / GIC certificate
End with: "DRAFT SOP - for RCIC review. Verify the program-coherence narrative, the funds arithmetic, and the post-graduation plan with the client before submission. Do not submit before reviewing IRCC's current PDI on study permits and the specific DLI's LOA wording."Unlock the vault to see the full prompt
