Prepare [CLIENT_NAME] for the [TARGET_EU_COUNTRY] citizenship ceremony at [CEREMONY_VENUE] on [CEREMONY_DATE], following approval on [APPROVAL_LETTER_DATE].
§1 — IF [TARGET_EU_COUNTRY] IS "Portugal"
CEREMONY FORMAT: Held at IRN (Instituto dos Registos e do Notariado) office, typically Conservatória dos Registos Centrais in Lisbon or regional office.
WHAT TO BRING:
(a) Approval letter from IRN
(b) Indian passport (still valid)
(c) Portuguese residence card
(d) Photo ID
(e) Smart attire
CEREMONY:
• Informal but solemn
• Officer hands the Certificate of Naturalisation (Nacionalidade Portuguesa)
• Optional signing of register
• Brief informal address by officer
OATH/DECLARATION:
• Portugal does NOT require explicit verbal oath at the ceremony (some other EU countries do)
• Acceptance of citizenship implied by acceptance of certificate
• Signing the registry book is the formalising act
POST-CEREMONY:
• Apply for Portuguese passport (Loja de Cidadão) — €65; processing 3-5 working days
• Get Portuguese Cartão de Cidadão (National ID) — €15; processing 5-10 days
• Update everything to Portuguese citizenship status
• Tax residency potentially changes (consult Portuguese tax advisor)
§2 — IF [TARGET_EU_COUNTRY] IS "Spain"
CEREMONY FORMAT: At local Registro Civil (Civil Registry). Critical: this is where the RENUNCIATION takes place for non-Iberoamerican applicants.
WHAT TO BRING:
(a) Approval letter from Ministry of Justice
(b) Indian passport (will be cited for renunciation)
(c) Spanish residence card (will be surrendered)
(d) Photo ID
CEREMONY:
• Held individually before Civil Registry judge / official
• Brief formal proceeding (10-30 minutes)
• Judge reads applicant name + nationality
• Applicant takes:
— OATH OF ALLEGIANCE to King (currently Felipe VI) and to Constitution of Spain
— VOLUNTARY RENUNCIATION of prior citizenship — applicant explicitly states "renuncio a la nacionalidad de la India" (or country)
— Recital must be audible
• Sign the Acta de Juramento or Promesa
OATH (Spanish, recited):
"Juro / Prometo fidelidad al Rey y obediencia a la Constitución como Ley fundamental del Estado. Asimismo, renuncio expresamente a mi anterior nacionalidad de [INDIA / OTHER]."
Notes:
• Iberoamerican applicants do NOT need to renounce (Spain treats their citizenship as compatible)
• Indian applicant: renunciation is required for the Spanish-side
• For India, this is symmetric with Indian s.9 automatic loss — so the same legal outcome from both sides
• CERTIFICATE OF NATIONALITY (Certificado de Nacionalidad) is issued after the ceremony
POST-CEREMONY:
• Apply for Spanish DNI (national ID card) — €12; processing 2-4 weeks
• Apply for Spanish passport at police comisaría — €30; processing 1-3 weeks
• Surrender NIE (foreigner number)
§3 — IF [TARGET_EU_COUNTRY] IS "Italy"
CEREMONY FORMAT: At Comune (Municipal Hall) of residence, typically presided over by the Sindaco (Mayor) or a delegate.
WHAT TO BRING:

(b) Indian passport
(c) Italian residence permit

— Receives Certificate of Citizenship
• Italian national anthem (Il Canto degli Italiani) often played
• Group photo
OATH (Italian, recited):
"Giuro di essere fedele alla Repubblica e di osservare la Costituzione e le leggi dello Stato."
(Translation: "I swear to be faithful to the Republic and to observe the Constitution and the laws of the State.")
Notes:
• Wording set in Italian law
• Recited audibly in group or individually
• Italy permits dual citizenship — no renunciation required from Italian side
• Italian citizenship is effective from oath date
POST-CEREMONY:
• Apply for Italian passport (Questura) — €116 (10-year); processing 3-6 weeks
• Apply for Italian Carta d'Identità (national ID)
• Update Codice Fiscale records as citizen

OATH (English, formal):
"I, [full name], hereby renounce, repudiate and forever abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign state, sovereign or government, and pledge my loyalty to the Republic of Malta. So help me God."
Notes:
• Renunciation language used but Malta permits dual — operative meaning subtle
• For Indian client: India still revokes anyway
• Sign the certificate; receive Maltese passport application form
POST-CEREMONY:

§8 — IF No
• Each child receives own Certificate of Naturalisation
• Children below age of majority generally do not recite oaths
• Children become EU citizens automatically with parent
• Bring children's documents
§9 — REHEARSAL TIPS
• Practice oath wording in target country language 5-10 times
• For Spain renunciation: practice exactly "Renuncio a la nacionalidad de la India" with clear pronunciation
• For Italy oath: "Giuro di essere fedele alla Repubblica" — practice rhythm
• Smart attire — formal business; cultural / traditional dress welcomed in most EU ceremonies
• Phones SILENT during ceremony
End with: "DRAFT preparation guide — for target-country lawyer / consultant review. Confirm ceremony details ([CEREMONY_VENUE], [CEREMONY_DATE]) against actual invitation. Country-specific oath wording is fixed by statute — verify current text. The Spanish renunciation requirement (non-Iberoamerican) is the most-litigated EU ceremony moment for Indian clients — coach precisely. After EU naturalisation, the Indian-side surrender process remains a separate, mandatory follow-up regardless of EU country's renunciation stance."Unlock the vault to see the full prompt
